Baldwin IV (1161–1185), often called the “Leper King,” was one of the most remarkable rulers of the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem.
Baldwin IV’s reign was defined by heroism in adversity—he not only ruled with wisdom, but stood on the battlefield against Saladin despite suffering from leprosy. Historians largely credit him as the last effective monarch of the Crusader Kingdom, whose unity unraveled soon after his passing.
